The Great Belonging Project: Day 24

“I started praying the Liturgy of the Hours…the rhythm of the opening hymn, followed by the recitation of the Psalms and prayers, helped me connect to my past, present, and future selves.” - The Great Belonging: How Loneliness Leads Us to Each Other

Here’s a simple ritual you can establish that will help you feel less alone for The Great Belonging Project: Day 24

1. Sit in a safe and comfortable spot in your home.

2. Light a candle.

3. Take six deep breaths with a six-count inhale and a six-count exhale.

4. Read a poem aloud or silently.

5. Blow out the candle.

Do the next thing.

Try to do this every day or most days at the same time of day. Feel free to do it multiple times each day. Try different poems or choose one that suits this particular season of life.

Feel free to tweak it however you like. It’s your ritual. This is just a suggestion to get you started.

Let me know how it goes!

Rituals are good. Breathing is good. Candles are good. Poems are good.

Cheers to putting ourselves in the way of good things like simple rituals to have a better sense of belonging.
